Our Project “Culture Brings Us Together” Ended With Delighting Memories

The youth exchange project entitled “Culture Brings Us Together” and financed by Center for EU Education and Youth Programs Turkish National Agency; hosted by Belen District Governorship and in partnership with NGO’s “Ask Yourself” – Romania and “Passepartout.up” – Italy had been held between 13-22 November 2017 with 24 participants from Italy, Romania and Turkey.

During the project, participants from Romania, Italy and Turkey have tried to exchange their manners and customs to each other through dance, music and story telling; interactively with the non-formal methods. As Italians introduced us their instrument called “Tamburella” , we also introduced them “Kaşık” belonging to Silifke Region and our instrument “Bağlama”. At the same time, Romanians performed their traditional dances in company with the song “La Sibiu from Dorel Savu”.

Throughout the project, we visited İskenderun Youth Center besides these trainings. During this visit; some traditional Turkish dances performed by the youngsters and also Italian and Romanian participants had a chance to share their own dances. There was a great harmony between the guests and youngsters in the Youth Center.

It was intended to publish Erasmus+ projects to more people by visiting Bahçeşehir College. Teachers and students had been informed about Erasmus+ Youth Exchange Programs. Also; Bahçeşehir College’s Folk Dances Team reflected Anatolian Culture to the participants with a small show.

Within the context of cultural activities; Habib-i Neccar Mosque, Saint Pierre Church and Hatay Archeological Museum had been visited in Antakya, cradle of civilizations. The participants saw how Hatay witnessed the history and how three religions lived together and still living. And also; they had a chance to walk on “Kurtuluş Street” which is the first enlightened street in the world.

With the final show performed; it was shown to the people that the relationship between the dances and the instruments and also the impacts of the stories had a great impression on people even if the cultures were different than each other.

Through this project; the participants broke down the stereotypes about Hatay and Turkey and they had more knowledge about Turkey. And the participants who took place in Erasmus+ projects for the first time learned more about Erasmus+ and they explained they will be interested in such projects more often.

The project which the participants were aware of that Erasmus+ Projects provide lifelong learning and awareness ended with Youthpass Certificate Ceremony and cake party.
