Day 7, Scialla Show

We started a beautiful and exciting day with a good Italian coffee 😊

Today is the big day we all waited for. Today all our efforts will be rewarded. Since we are here, every day we did something to get closer to this, we worked to develop the necessary skills to do it.

We all put our energies together to create the greatest radio program ever on the local radio – Scialla Show. We all worked hard and got really involved in the topics we choose, which were of high interest for us. We talked a lot about our views about education, the situation of the youth in Europe, but we also focused on Erasmus+ projects and the diversity of our home countries: Portugal, Spain, Romania and Italy. Some of us prepared to moderate part of the programs, others developed solutions and speeches. We were very excited about the upcoming radio show. We looked forward arriving to the radio and be as good as we can.

Full of excitement, we took a lunch break. We had a big surprise, because our cook prepared for us a Romanian traditional soup which was very good and helped us warm ourselves in the winter cold Serra San Bruno.

Although we were very nervous and we didn’t have previous experience, we managed to deliver a good performance. Being in the radio was a whole new experience for us and even if we weren’t perfect, we learned a lot about how to keep calm and express our opinions in the radio style. It was difficult for us because we had to keep in mind that we have limited time, which made things even harder.

Listening to the first team gave us courage and made the others feel more comfortable with the situation and more aware about the objective. Than the second team continued, the third and the forth. We were on the radio for 4 hours!!!

Although it was hard, we learned a lot and we gained knowledge and experience in talking with the people from the radio. We had to focus on the topic and be aware of the limited time we have, furthermore we had to speak clearly and in an articulate way in English.

When we all returned from the radio we shared our stories and experiences about the show and we started the preparations for the intercultural evening. Italy and Portugal shared with us a glimpse of their culture, which includes traditions, food, drinks, dancing and curiosities.

The Portuguese team started the presentation with a sarcastic video about Portugal. After that, they taught us some Portuguese expressions, curiosities, the national anthem, an academic song that the university students usually sing when they are drinking, and also some postcards and maps.

After Portugal it was Italy time, they provided us a very good presentation about their country. It started with two videos, one about the funny behavior of Italians in some situations, like parking, driving or cross the street; and the other one was about the Italians being not very good at English. After that they taught us some gestures and we needed to try to guess the meaning. Finally, they ended the presentation with a typical dance called “tarantella”.

When the presentations were done, we started to try typical food and drinks from the two countries and also singing karaoke. It was a very nice experience in a sense that was a really interesting and funny way to learn a little bit more about each country.
